Volleyball Geibel plays on Tuesday

Avonworth will be the next opponent for Geibel Catholic as the Lady Gators look to successfully defend their WPIAL Class A volleyball crown in a quarterfinal match on Tuesday, Oct. 31. The Lady Antelopes and Lady Gators will be the first game of a doubleheader at Norwin High School at 6 p.m.

Thomas Jefferson and Derry will play a Class AA quarterfinal in the second game beginning at 7:30.

The winner of the Geibel Catholic-Avonworth match will play the winner of Elderton-Bentworth in the semifinals on Thursday.

Cross country

Waynesburg hosts PAC

The Yellow Jackets will look to improve upon last year’s finish, and hope running on their home course will be the edge in today’s Presidents’ Athletic Conference Championships. The men will run at 11 a.m. with the women to follow at 11:45.

Grove City is the defending men’s and women’s champions.

Megan Grover and Michelle Propst earned all-conference status last year, and freshman Janet Carson looks to do so this year. Heath Piper, a two-time all-conference performer, and Tim Monaghan, all-conference last year, have led the men this season.
