W&J topples Allegheny
WASHINGTON, Pa. (AP) – Ryan Mendel ran for 177 yards and teammates Ryan Church and Curt Jones scored first-half touchdowns to help Washington & Jefferson to a 22-10 victory over Allegheny on Saturday night. Mendel carried 33 times and accounted for the bulk of the 298 rushing yards amassed by the Presidents (1-1) 298.
Church scored on a 15-yard run and Jones followed with a 1-yard plunge to help Washington & Jefferson to a 12-0 lead late in the first half. Kyle Sidebotham added a 30-yard field goal and Cory Walsh returned an interception 36 yards for another score.
Jimmy Savage led Allegheny (1-1), going 23-of-36 for 263 with an 11-yard touchdown pass and one interception.
Josh Whiteside added a 29-yard field goal for Allegheny.
