Uniontown, Mount Pleasant golfers prep for Thursday showdown Both Uniontown and Mount Pleasant kept on rolling Tuesday, and the duel is now set.
The Red Raiders ran their Division I, Section 2 mark to 8-1 with a win over Ringgold, while Mt. Pleasant remained unbeaten (9-0) in section play with a victory over Connellsville.
On Thursday, the two teams meet at Duck Hollow Golf Course in a match beginning at 2:30 p.m.
The Vikings won the earlier meeting this season between the two teams, 196-204, at Norvelt Golf Course.
“We didn’t putt very well, and I believe some of our lack of experience in playing that course kind of hurt us,” said Uniontown coach Aaron Scott. “I definitely believe we’ll have the home-course advantage Thursday.”
Against Ringgold, the Red Raiders’ Josh Miller grabbed medallist honors with a 1-over 36 on the Red Course’s front nine at Cedar Brook Golf Course.

Rockwell, Bobish, Rogers and Over are seniors, with Miller, Alan Zieglar and Sean Hughes being juniors.
“I have a little more depth this year, and that might help us in winning the section title,” Scott said.
Uniontown’s other loss this season came on the road to defending WPIAL champion Upper St. Clair.
“Our opening match was against Laurel Highlands, and we tied 197-197, before we won in a playoff hole,” Scott said. “That kind of jump-started our whole season. I was hoping just to place second going into section play.
“We’ve had some surprises this year from some of my seniors who really stepped up. We kind of changed our focus when we realized we had a chance to go for the section championship.”
Uniontown won three straight section titles from 2001-2003.
The Red Raiders will face Waynesburg Central today in a tuneup for Thursday’s match.
“We’ll just try to do the same thing (as Tuesday),” Scott said. “It will be a nice warmup for the kids; they can maybe hit some different shots on a different golf course. It will maybe give them a chance to work on some of their game.”
