Mikluscak leads Laurel Highlands to soccer win over Albert Gallatin Kayla Mikluscak scored two goals and added a pair of assists as Laurel Highlands breezed past visiting Albert Gallatin, 7-1, Wednesday in Section 6-AAA soccer action.
After Albert Gallatin’s gave the Lady Colonials a 1-0 lead at the 38:17 mark, the Fillies scored seven unanswered goals.
Alex Frankhouser tied the game off a direct kick, and Mikluscak’s first goal, off an assist from Morgan Palya, put LH in the lead for good at the 20:12 mark.
Palya took a pass from Mikluscak and scored give Laurel Highlands a 3-1 lead, and Frankhouser and Katie Albert also scored before first half ended.
Mikluscak’s second goal came off a penalty kick at the 28:39 mark of the second half, and Albert closed out the scoring off an assist from Mikluscak at the 15:30 mark.
Jackie Gaddis had five saves for Laurel Highlands (4-8-1, 3-5-1), while Alyssa Clark made seven saves for Albert Gallatin.
Elizabeth-Forward 1, Connellsville 0 – The Lady Falcons dropped a Section 6-AAA match in overtime.
Connellsville falls to 8-4 overall and 6-3 in section play.
Girls Tennis
Connellsville 3, Norwin 2 – The Lady Falcons took two of three singles matches, and sealed the win by splitting the doubles matches in Section 1-AAA action.
At No. 2 singles, Connellsville’s Megan Parsons defeated Caitlin Brozek, 6-1, 6-4. The Lady Falcons’ Amy Lucas then defeated Norwin’s Darlene Tzau, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 3 singles.
Norwin’s Brett Czekaj topped Laura Husband at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-1.
In doubles action, Connellsville’s Kayla Naugle and Emily Stout teamed to defeat Lindsay Alberts and Amanda Karl, 7-5, 6-0.
In No. 2 doubles, the Lady Knights’ Kelsey Alberts and Angela Curcio topped Megan Jacobs and Kristina Herman, 6-4, 6-2.
Connellsville improves to 11-3 overall and 6-3 in Section 1-AAA. Norwin fell to 3-6 in section play.
Southmoreland 4, Brownsville 1 – Nicole Kerestine won at No. 1 singles, but the Lady Falcons dropped the rest of their sets in a Section 1-AA loss to the visiting Lady Scotties.
Kerestine defeated Laura Schenck, 6-0, 6-2. Southmoreland’s Amanda Lebe topped Bethany Seelye, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, and at No. 3, the Lady Scotties’ Mandy Onder defeated Becky Barnhart, (5-7), 6-3, 6-2.
In doubles action, Lindsay Skovira and Gena Hart teamed to defeat Samantha Bochna and Erin Ryan, 6-2, 6-1, while Katie Pallone and Alicia Snyder combined for a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Amber Fabian and Amanda Smith.
Southmoreland improves to 4-4 overall and 4-2 in section, while Brownsville drops to 1-7 overall and 1-5 in Section 1-AA.
Boys Golf
Jefferson-Morgan 204, Albert Gallatin 229 – Josh Kokoska fired an even-par 36 to help lead the Rockets past the Colonials in non-section action at Greene County Country Club.
Matt Kokoska and Justin Hughes each carded 41s, as J-M improved to 16-1 overall.
Dylan Blosser came in at 42, followed by Zack Basinger (44).
Tom Corazzi and Brett DiDominic paced Albert Gallatin (6-8), each shooting 45s. Jake Magerko and Nick Samples followed with 46s, and Scott Marchezak added a 47.
Girls Volleyball
Geibel Catholic 3, Carmichaels 0 – Natalie Hozak, Chelsey Kreinbrook and Breanne Dowden helped lift the unbeaten Lady Gators past the visiting Lady Mikes in a Section 6-A match.
Geibel Catholic (8-0, 7-0) won by scores of 25-8, 25-7 and 25-17.
Hozak registered 11 kills, Kreinbrook was credited with 12 assists and Dowden recorded 11 service points.
Carmichaels falls to 2-9 overall and 2-6 in section play.
College Baseball
Butler County Community College 10, Penn State-Fayette 4 – The Roaring Lions’ Jared Early homered, but it wasn’t enough as PSU-Fayette dropped a non-conference affair on the road.
Early had two hits and two RBIs. His leadoff home run in the top of the sixth inning gave Penn State-Fayette its first run, and was his third roundtripper of the season.
Tyler Onusko added a pair of singles for the Roaring Lions (6-3).
A.J. Ardabell suffered the loss, starting and working four innings. He allowed five runs (two earned) on six hits, with two strikeouts and one walk.
Ryan Caringola and John Pochron also worked two innings each.
