Cree leads Waynesburg Central past South Park Troy Cree scored on runs of 53 and five yards and also threw for two touchdowns as Waynesburg Central upended visiting South Park 49-17 in Interstate Conference action Friday.

Justin Fink put South Park on the scoreboard first with a 40-yard field goal at 8:41 in the first quarter.

Cree quickly answered as he scampered 53 yards to give the Raiders the lead. He led all Waynesburg rushers with 101 yards on 11 carries and threw for 155 yards.

Cree connected with Brandon Rumbaugh on a 68-yard strike with time winding down in the first quarter.

The Waynesburg offense was running on all cylinders as Keith Higginbotham scored two touchdowns of 55 and 10 yards.

Higginbotham totaled 77 yards on seven carries.

The Raiders erupted for 474 yards of total offense compared to just 144 from South Park.

In addition to seven field goals, Nick Patton scored at 2:34 in the third quarter on a 2-yard jaunt.

Waynesburg is back in action at home against Jeannette on Oct. 6.

Girls tennis

Latrobe 4, Connellsville 1 – The team of Megan Jacobs and Kristina Herman defeated Samm Trainer and Julia DeFabo 6-4, 6-2, but it was all Latrobe after that as the Wildcats downed host Connellsville in a Section 1-AAA tennis match.

Latrobe’s Joelle Kissell blanked Laura Husband in No. 1 singles, while Andrea Sutyak upended Amy Lucas 6-2, 6-0 in the third singles match.

In the first doubles match, the team of Nicole Peer and Caitie Walton defeated Connellsville’s Kayla Naugle and Emily Stout 6-4, 7-6 (9-7).

The Lady Falcons (11-4, 6-4) host Franklin Regional Tuesday.

Greensburg C.C. 5, Brownsville 0 – It was a rough day for the Brownsville girls tennis team as host Greensburg Central Catholic cruised to an easy Section 1-AA win.

Franca Peluso made quick work of Erin Ryan in the first singles match (6-0, 6-0) as did Samantha DeStefano over Amanda Smith (6-0, 6-0).

Courtney Hawk downed Amber Fabian (6-1, 6-0) in No. 3 singles.

The team of Caitlyn Null and Suzie Soltis defeated Brownsville’s Bethany Seelye and Nicole Kerestine 6-2, 6-7 (7-4) in No. 2 doubles, and Katie Colbaugh and Annmarie Queale made it a clean Greensburg C.C. sweep with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Becky Barnhart and Samantha Bochna.
