Lady Gators clinch share of section crown Geibel Catholic clinched at least a share of the Section 2-A title Thursday with an 85-37 victory at West Greene.

The Lady Gators improve to 7-1 in the section and 13-6 overall, and hold a two-game advantage in the loss column over Jefferson-Morgan, Carmichaels and Mapletown. West Greene falls to 1-7 in the section and 1-20 overall.

The Lady Gators’ Natalie Hozak scored a game-high 22 points while grabbing six rebounds. Sarah Erdely finished with 17 and had six assists. Mia White scored 12 and Leah Delmar and Breanne Dowden both finished with 11.

Samantha Milliken led the Lady Pioneers with 18 points.

Charleroi 54, Brownsville 35 – The Lady Falcons trailed by four after the first quarter, but they would draw no closer for a Section 5-AA home loss. Brownsville goes to 4-7 in the section and 9-12 overall while Charleroi improves to 7-3 in the section and 12-10 overall.

Jessica Sidary scored a team-high 16 points for the Lady Cougars with Tiffany Bradley adding 11.

Emily Lucosh hit three 3-pointers for finish with 13 points for Brownsville. Cassie Onesko added 10.

Thomas Jefferson 47, Waynesburg Central 20 – The Lady Raiders only managed to score in double digits in the third quarter as the Lady Jaguars finished with a Section 4-AAA home victory.

Thomas Jefferson evens its section record at 6-6 while improving to 6-14 overall.

Waynesburg Central falls to 0-13 in the section and 1-22 overall.

Miatta Toothman led Waynesburg with seven points.

Boys swimming

Canon-McMillan 98, Laurel Highlands 74 – The Mustangs split the events, but the Big Macs had a bit more depth for a Section 5-AAA home victory. Canon-McMillan goes to 4-0 in the section while Laurel Highlands is now 3-1 in the section and 5-7 overall.

Laurel Highlands’ Dave Johnson won multiple events, finishing first in the diving (164.35 points) and 50 freestyle (23.28 seconds).

Chris Hunchuck also brought home a pair of first places, winning the 200 IM (2:11.84) and 100 butterfly (59.54), as did Zack Collins in the 200 freestyle (2:08.27) and 500 freestyle (5:53.04).

Uniontown 68, McKeesport 27 – The Red Raiders won their first Section 5-AAA meet, overwhelming the Tigers on the road. Uniontown improves to 1-2 in the section and 3-9 overall.

Emanuel Brosky, Dan Rush, Brodie Kelley and Luke Zajac finished first in the 200 medley relay.

Kelley won the 200 freestyle (2:26.34) and 100 butterfly (1:50.87).

Keanu Glisan won the 50 freestyle (25.95 seconds) and 100 freestyle (59.08). Brosky won the 100 backstroke in 1:21.48. Dan Rush won the diving competition with 165.10 points.

Brosky, Kelley, Glisan and Zajac won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:50.98.

Girls swimming

Laurel Highlands 94, Canon-McMillan 87 – Canon-McMillan took seven first places, but the Fillies had enough depth to remain undefeated in Section 5-AAA.

Laurel Highlands improves to 4-0 in the section and 9-3 overall. Canon-McMillan slips to 2-2 in the section.

The 200 relay team of Casey Martin, Marissa Allison, Chance Leighgaber and Kelly Huston won in 1:54.20, as did the 400 relay team of Denise Martin, Laura Koposko, Jessica Gallo and Kendall George in 4:26.66

Huston won the 100 freestyle in 58.57 seconds and Koposko took first in the 500 freestyle in 6:20.58. Allison won the 200 IM with a time of 2:32.95.

Uniontown 98, McKeesport 49 – The Lady Raiders prepped for next week’s showdown with Laurel Highlands with a convincing win over the visiting Tigers.

The 200 medley relay team of Holly Nedley, Katie Patek, Kaitlyn Johnson and Jess Dzara started things for Uniontown (3-0, 10-2) with a win in 2:05.67. The same quartet won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:49.46.

Dzara won the 200 freestyle (2:12.29) and 500 freestyle (5:53.92).

Johnson finished first in the 50 freestyle (25.29 seconds) and 100 freestyle (55.65). Nedley was the winner of the 200 IM in 2:32.86 and Rebecca Smith finished first in the 100 butterfly (1:09.38).

Boys basketball

Turkeyfoot Valley 65, Meyersdale 49 – Tim Wass led a group of four Turkeyfoot Valley players in double figures with a game-high 21 points as the Rams defeated visiting Meyersdale in a West-Pac South Conference clash.

Nathan Glass followed with 16 points for Turkeyfoot (11-8), Bill Chatman drained four 3-pointers in scoring 14, and Cody Colflesh added 10.

The Rams, who shot 64 percent from the field, led 20-18, 32-29 and 48-38 at the breaks.

Jeff Miller and Matt Stahl paced Meyersdale with 18 and 11 points, respectively.

Turkeyfoot travels to Berlin on Monday.
