US Airways plans Steelers themed airplane
PITTSBURGH (AP) – US Airways is taking its support of the Pittsburgh Steelers to new heights. The airline is partnering with the football team on a Steelers-themed jet.
The aircraft, to be used on commercial flights, will be painted with the team’s logo and black-and-gold colors later this year.
As part of the partnership, US Airways will sponsor some signs at Heinz Field as well as some tailgate parties before games.
US Airways, which used to use Pittsburgh International Airport as a hub, has been based in Tempe, Ariz., since merging with America West in 2005.
US Airways has similar promotional partnerships and NFL-themed planes with the Philadelphia Eagles and Arizona Cardinals, both teams in major US Airways markets.
A Carolina Panthers plane is also in the works. The airline has a hub in Charlotte, N.C.
