Cold weather forces many local schedule changes

By The 2 min read

The frigid temperatures and accompanying school closings have taken a toll on the sports schedules of area teams. As a result, tonight becomes a heavy night on the local docket, with two wrestling matches, four girls basketball games and eight boys basketball games on tap.

The wrestling matches – Albert Gallatin at West Greene and Ringgold at Uniontown – remain unchanged from the original schedules. Both matches begin at 7 p.m.

Three of the four girls games also were originally scheduled for tonight, but the Cornell at Mapletown game will be played at 6 p.m. instead of 7:30 p.m. Originally scheduled games to be played tonight on the girls slate are Geibel Catholic at Frazier and Beth-Center at Carmichaels. A four girls game – California at Jefferson-Morgan – was moved from Monday to Wednesday and will be the nightcap of a boy-girl doubleheader.

California at Jefferson-Morgan boys will make up their Section 2-A game at 6 p.m., while another Section 2-A game has Carmichaels visiting Geibel Catholic at 7:30 p.m. Also moved from Tuesday to Wednesday on the boys slate, all at 7:30 p.m., are Brownsville at Beth-Center, Southmoreland at Greensburg Salem and Waynesburg Central at Chartiers-Houston.

Boys games originally scheduled for Wednesday night show Mapletown at Clay-Battelle, West Greene at Burgettstown and Salisbury-Elk Lick at Turkeyfoot Valley.
