LH girls defeat Yough; Lady Raiders’ upset bid falls short Laurel Highlands’ Maressa Guynn scored a game-high 13 points, including a perfect 5-of-5 mark from the foul line en route to a 46-37 Section 3-AAA win over host Yough in girls basketball action Thursday.

Yough held a slim 3-point first-quarter edge, but the Fillies worked their way back into the game with an impressive second half, which included a 16-point third-quarter explosion.

Kiski Area 64, Uniontown 63 – Lindsey Nies made two free throws with three seconds remaining to help playoff-bound Kiski Area foil host Uniontown’s upset bid in their Section 1-AAAA tussle.

The Lady Raiders, who rallied from a double-digit deficit, pulled to within 62-60 and then took the lead on a clutch play by Mallory Sanner with 13.6 seconds left. Uniontown (9-13, 4-10) failed to get off a shot in the final three seconds and Kiski had the win.

The loss overshadowed two outstanding offensive performances by coach Jason Winfrey’s Lady Raiders. Lawren Davis ripped the nets for a game-high 25 points and Sanner followed with 21.
