New York Rangers shut out Lightning NEW YORK (AP) – Hard-hitters Colton Orr and Ryan Hollweg snapped career-long scoring droughts and the New York Rangers used a plethora of unexpected offense to beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-0 Friday night, breaking a four-game losing streak.
Sean Avery, in his first home game since being acquired from Los Angeles, netted his first goal with New York, and Marcel Hossa and Jaromir Jagr also scored as the Rangers earned a much-needed victory.
Almost forgotten was Henrik Lundqvist, who made 29 saves for his second shutout this season and fourth in his two-year career. New York, in 11th place in the Eastern Conference, moved within five points of the Lightning, who had a four-game winning streak ended.
Johan Holmqvist allowed four goals on 16 shots before Marc Denis relieved him in the second period.
Oilers 2, Blackhawks 1
EDMONTON, Alberta – Shawn Horcoff had a goal and an assist to help the Edmonton Oilers beat the Chicago Blackhawks.
The Oilers have won four of their last six to move ahead of Colorado for ninth place in the Western Conference, six points out of a playoff spot. Chicago had a two-game winning streak snapped. The Blackhawks had won four of their last five games after losing 10 in a row.
Raffi Torres scored the Oilers’ other goal, and Dwayne Roloson made 32 saves, allowing only Martin Havlat’s third-period goal.
