Nady released after 2-day stay in hospital
BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) – Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Xavier Nady was released from a hospital Thursday, two days after being admitted for an inflammation of the intestine. Nady is expected to resume limited physical activity today.
He informed the team’s medical staff Monday of recurring stomach pain. By Tuesday night, the pain had become sharp enough that he went to a hospital.
On May 30, while with the New York Mets, Nady was rushed to the hospital to have an emergency appendectomy and ended up missing three weeks of action. Littlefield mentioned the appendectomy but did not specify if the matters were related.
No timetable was given for Nady’s return to the field.
The 28-year-old Nady was acquired from the Mets at the trade deadline last July. He batted .300 in 55 games for the Pirates, with three home runs and 23 RBIs. He is projected to be the starting right fielder this season.
NOTES: Minor league infielder Javier Guzman was held out of the team’s two-hour workout at Pirate City because of an unspecified left knee injury. … Jose Castillo continued to take ground balls at third base. … Jason Bay, recovering from offseason knee surgery, did not participate in outfield drills. He is expected to progress slowly through the early part of spring training.
