AG wrestlers maintain share of Section 2-AAA lead Albert Gallatin maintained a share of the Section 2-AAA lead as the Colonials head to a showdown with co-leader Hempfield Saturday night with a 46-30 win over Belle Vernon Wednesday night at Albert Gallatin.

Jacob Weslager (140) and Don Tasser (145) started things on a positive note for the Leopards with a pair of falls.

Albert Gallatin started a run to victory with Jeff Dulaney’s win by default at 152 pounds. Belle Vernon won a decision at 160, but the Colonials responded with a major decision by Lance Bryson (171), a forfeit win by Kevin Bella (189) and falls by Jeremiah Karpency (215) and Dave Mitchell (285).

Cody Rubin (103) and Travis Scott (130) won by fall for the Leopards with Jeremy Weslager winning by fall at 119.

John Thomas won by forfeit at 112 with Matt Lowry (125) and Brad Zitney (135) recording falls.

The Colonials (6-0, 14-3) travel to Hempfield Saturday at 7 p.m. for sole possession of first place in Section 2-AAA.

South Side Beaver 38, West Greene 32 – The visiting Rams built up too much of a lead for the Pioneers to rally against as South Side made the long trip home as the victors in Section 1-AA action.

Colton Blumer (112), Dakota Riffle (119), Garrett Johnston (125) and Chris Horr (189) all won by fall for West Greene. Kory Bissett (140), Tucker Conklin (152) and Patrick Morris (171) won by decisions for the Pioneers.

Boys basketball

Chartiers-Houston 54, Mapletown 48 – The Maples and Bucs played even in three of the four quarters, but the slight 20-12 advantage the visitors had in the third quarter was the ultimate difference for the non-section road victory.

Mapletown led by two after the first quarter and both teams scored 20 combined points in the second and fourth quarters.

Jordan Cypher was a thorn in the Maples’ side with 17 points and eight steals. John Popeck added 14 for the Bucs.

Ethan Kovach nailed six 3-pointers for the Maples (3-13) to finish with a team-high 14 points. Jake Shiflett added 12.

Belle Vernon 79, Brownsville 51 – The Leopards outscored the visitors in each of the four quarters on their way to a non-section home victory. Belle Vernon led by three, five and 11 points at the quarter breaks.

Brian Luzanski nailed five 3-pointers for Belle Vernon (6-12) to score a game-high 24 points. Jacob Dudzinski scored 16, Jake Cramer had 11 and Tyler Shutterly added 10 for the Leopards.

Josh Roberts led Brownsville (4-12) with 21 points. Terrance McCoy added 10.

Girls basketball

Bishop Canevin 68, Geibel Catholic 34 – The visitors built a big halftime lead, and made it stand in the second half for a non-section road victory. Bishop Canevin improves to 13-4 overall while the Lady Gators slip to 10-4.

Twelve different players score for Bishop Canevin with Kate McCaffrey leading the way with 16. Destiny Ambrose scored 12 and Megan Reffert added 11.

Natalie Hozak was the lone Lady Gator in double digits with 13. Sarah Erdely added nine.

Clairton 59, Brownsville 27 – The Lady Bears improved its eight-point first-quarter lead to a 27-point halftime lead for a comfortable non-section road victory.

Carele Smith led Clairton (11-6) with 13 points while Alexis Sayles added 10.

Rebecca Bruschi led the Lady Falcons (8-7) with 12 points.

Men’s basketball

Penn State-Beaver 69, Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus 53 – A quartet of players finished in double figures to lead the visitors to a PSUAC victory over the Roaring Lions.

Raymont Edwards led Penn State-Beaver (6-3, 6-8) with 15 points. Joe Daransky was close behind with 14 while Tim Jukes added 13. Zach Fetchin rounded out the double digit scorers with 11.

Chase Ogburn led the Roaring Lions (0-8, 0-16) with a game-high 18 points. Jordan Alderson added 16.

Penn State Fayette hosts Penn State-DuBois on Saturday.

Bethany (W.Va.) 102, Waynesburg 80 – The Bison built a 29-point halftime lead, and then cruised home for a Presidents’ Athletic Conference road victory. The win marked the 29th consecutive victory in the PAC for Bethany and the ninth straight over the Yellow Jackets.

James Wallace scored a game-high 26 points for the Bison (5-0, 12-4) with Brody Jackson and Ryan Besancon both adding 15. Chris Stephens finished with 14 while Marc Palermo added 12. Waynesburg Central grad Nate Stoner finished with four points and a rebound.

Shawn Coleman scored a team-high 19 points for Waynesburg. Jered Gamble added 16.

Waynesburg (1-4, 7-7) has now lost three in a row and four consecutive PAC contests.

Women’s basketball

Waynesburg 74, Bethany (W.Va.) 69, OT – Katie Lewandowski and Johnna Deco both scored career highs to lead the Yellow Jacket to a Presidents’ Athletic Conference overtime home victory. Waynesburg led by two at the half, but the visiting Bison tied the game in regulation to force overtime.

The Yellow Jackets outscored Bethany in the overtime period, 15-10.

Lewandowski poured in a game-high 32 points for her career mark, while Deco scored 15 for her career best. Jeannette Wonsettler finished with a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Courtney Irwin had a double-double for the Bison (2-3, 6-9) with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Mandi Swinger also had a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Lisa Mitchell was in double digits with 15 points.
