Mill Run sweeps California
Ryan Firestone ripped a solo home run as part of a five-hit afternoon as Mill Run defeated California 6-4 and 4-1 in a Fayette County League doubleheader Saturday. In the first game, Travis Henry recorded his first one-hitter with four strikeouts and two walks.
Bob Fulton had the hot bat for Mill Run with a triple.
Losing pitcher Travis Van Olst worked five innings with six strikeouts and five walks.
Justin Deutsch singled for the lone California hit in the second inning.
In the nightcap, Firestone paced Mill Run, but he had help at the plate as Fulton singled twice as did teammate Dave Sumner.
Brandon Bryner doubled and singled for Mill Run.
California’s Jason Dayner, Garrett Balas, Mario Fragello, Rob Galis and Terry Luko each doubled for California.
Winning pitcher Bill Bendis worked six and two-thirds innings with two strikeouts and four walks, while Ryan Encapera went home with the loss with five strikeouts and two walks.
Mill Run hosts Waynesburg Tuesday.
