Sikora wins Fuhrer invitational Ryan Sikora had the low round of the day Wednesday, and his 4-under 68 led him to the 23rd Frank B. Fuhrer, Jr. Invitational title by a 6-stroke margin over Jason Martin and a $25,000 payday.
Sikora, an assistant at Totteridge Golf Club, and Martin were tied after three rounds at 211, but Martin carded a 2-over 74 to finish alone in second place with a 285. Martin, who works at Fox Chapel Golf Club, won $11,000 for his second-place finish.
Waynesburg’s Robert Rohanna faltered a bit in the final round with a 74, but it was good enough for a third-place finish at 1-under 287 for the Penn State University senior.
A couple of veterans tied for fourth place with John Aber and Sean Knapp both finishing at 289. Brent Johnson and Tomas Lindh were a shot behind in sixth place with Richard von Tacky and Mike Van Sickle tied for eighth with a 3-over 291. John Mazza rounded out the top 10 with a 292.
Byers records ace
Dave Byers of Uniontown recorded a hole in one on the Links Course at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort & Spa in Farmington on Sunday.
Byers used a 5 iron to ace the 195-yard No. 13 hole. His playing partners at the time were Tom Risha, John Maczko and Sam Capranica.
