Battaglia misses cut at U.S. Junior Championship Laurel Highlands senior Maria Battaglia had a tough second round Tuesday, shooting a 17-over 89 at the 2007 U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship hosted by the Tacoma Country and Golf Club. She opened with an 11-over 83 in the first round of the two-round stroke play, finishing with a two-round total of 28-over 172.

The top 64 finishers advanced to match play, scheduled to begin today and run through the remainder of the week.

Springdale aces

Two holes-in-one have been reported at Springdale Golf Course.

Sunday, Justin Guittap recorded his first ace on the No. 14, 130-yard hole.

He dropped his ace with a nine-iron shot before witnesses Dan Zack and Josh Guittap.

The second ace of the week came on Monday as Roger Rantovich made his 13th career hole-in-one.

His ace came on the No. 12, 155-yard hole.

He was using a six iron.

The ace was witnessed by Bob Burket, Tim Rosneck and Chuck Latsnic.
