Fayette Campus baseball team on Florida trip
Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus is getting a taste of Grapefruit League baseball with the Roaring Lions joining 31 other college teams in the Florida Coast Spring Training in Fort Pierce. Fla. The Roaring Lions have played four games to date, two Monday and a pair Tuesday.
Penn State Fayette lost both ends of a doubleheader Monday to Oakton (Ill.) Community College, the third-ranked junior college program in the nation, 15-2 and 5-1. Jared Early went 3-for-7 in the two games, while Jamie Bandish went 1-for-3 in the first game and Justin Revak and Jared Lint did the same in the nightcap.
Rock Valley (Ill.) College won the first game of Tuesday’s doubleheader, 9-4, but the Roaring Lions rallied for a split in the second game, 9-2.
Early went 2-for-3 in the first game with Bandish and Revak both going 1-for-3. Penn State Fayette spread the offense around in the second game with Phil Gratchic leading the way with a double and single. Bobby Fulton and Justin Corso both added a pair of singles, and Early had the first extra base hit with a double.
Lint went the distance for the win, striking out five and walking one in seven innings.
The Roaring Lions are back in action today with a lengthy doubleheader. They open the day with an 8:45 a.m. start against Delaware Valley College and close the day with an 8:15 p.m. game against West Chester Community College.
