Baseball/softball Cal players of the week

California University of Pa. sophomore Nick Schreiber was named the PSAC West baseball Pitcher of the Week after throwing a four-hit shutout in the last game of the four-game series at Lock Haven, which clinched the Vulcans’ third-straight PSAC West regular-season title.

Schreiber scattered four hits and three walks over seven innings to improve to 5-2 for the season.

He struck out seven in recording his fourth complete game and second shutout of the season.

California shortstop Megan Timpf was named the PSAC West softball Player of the Week after hitting .500 and leading the Vulcans to a doubleheader sweep at Clarion Saturday, clinching the team’s 19th straight PSAC playoff berth.

In Cal’s only games of the week, Timpf was 4-for-8 with two triples, two walks, four runs scored and three RBIs as the Vulcans swept the Golden Eagles, 4-1 and 25-6.
