White’s walk-off homer lifts Beth-Center over Chartiers-Houston Though they won’t be going to the 2007 Class AA playoffs, the Beth-Center baseball team certainly played like a postseason squad as they earned a thrilling 10-7 victory over Class A Chartiers-Houston in a non-section game on Thursday.

With the score tied 3-3 after three innings, the host Bulldogs put up a four spot in the bottom of the fourth to grab a 7-3 lead. However, the Buccaneers came roaring back with a run in the fifth and the sixth and then up two in the top of the seventh to tie the score at 7-7.

Nate White got to play hero for B-C in the bottom of the seventh when, with two men on and one out, he belted a 1-1 pitch out over the left field fence to bring up the final score of 10-7.

It was White’s third long ball of the season.

The only think disappointing about the win to B-C head coach Frank Pryor was that injuries prevented more solid performances like this from happening all year.

“We’re healthy,” Pryor said. “[Joe] Tarley had surgery and was out for a while. [Steve] Hvizda was out about 10 days and the player was playing place of Tarley at third base got injured.”

Beth-Center (6-11) wraps up their season tonight, Senior Night, at home against Mapletown.

Laurel Highlands 5, Albert Gallatin 1 – The Mustangs looked good in their final tune up before the playoffs as they earned a victory against non-section rival Albert Gallatin on Thursday.

The Section 2-AAA champion Mustangs (16-2) were led by pitcher Mike Newhouse (3-0), who gave up just five hits and a run in the fourth to pick up the win off the hill. He also recorded eight strikeouts.

Mike Pegg scored two runs to help lead the offense which was too much for Colonials (5-13) hurler Elmer Engle, who took the loss.

The Mustangs now await a decision from WPIAL selection committee to find out just who they’ll be facing in the first round of the playoffs. The tournament brackets for all four classes will be unveiled tonight.
