College Cal 9th in Dixon race

California University of Pa. finished ninth out of 14 schools in the PSAC Dixon Trophy standings for the second year in a row.

The Dixon Trophy is awarded annually to the league’s most successful all-around athletics program.

Cal tied for its highest finish in the standings with 115.5 points, one point less than last year.

The Vulcans improved from 11th place entering the spring season with a team championship in women’s tennis and a second-place finish in baseball.

Cal’s other championship was a second-straight PSAC West football crown.

Second-place finishes were also recorded by the volleyball and women’s basketball teams.

“For the second-straight year, Cal had five teams in PSAC Championship Games, and we believe we’re on the cusp of making a move up the standings in several other sports,” said Director of Athletics Dr. Thomas Pucci.

Lock Haven won its third Dixon Trophy in 12 years with 143.5 points.
