Sankovich sparks Buds to 9-4 win over Potters Brian Sankovich drove in four runs for the second consecutive game to help Bud Murphy’s roll past visiting Potter’s Clubhouse, 9-4, in Fayette County Baseball League action on Friday.

Sankovich doubled and singled in upping his RBI total on the young season to nine as Bud’s improved to 3-0.

Brian Hilbert pitched five scoreless innings with six strikeouts to earn the win. Mike Ciarochi finished up in the sixth. The game was called after six innings due to darkness.

Ryan Misick and Dean Lewandowski each smacked a pair of hits and knocked in a pair of runs for manager Tom Sankovich’s team.

Bud’s scored in every inning, plating single runs in the first two innings before exploding for five in the third, then adding one in the fourth and two more in the fifth.

Both teams had 10 hits, but Bud’s also drew 10 walks.

Casey Kupets had a double and a single for Potter’s, which also got two hits apiece from Nick Apicella, Brent Baker and Phil Gratchic.

Kevin Bell was the losing pitcher.

Bud’s is in action again on Sunday when it host Waynesburg in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.

Carmichaels 7, Phil’s Tire 5-The defending Fayette County Baseball League champions got their first win of the year as they beat Phil’s Tire on Friday night.

After falling behind 5-0 after two innings, the Copperheads (1-2) put up two in the top of the fourth, one in the sixth and then rocked Phil’s relief pitcher Tim Latham for four innings in the top of the seventh. Carmichaels relief pitcher Justin Schrader then shut the door in the bottom of the seventh, his second inning of work, to seal the deal.

Schrader tossed two stellar innings in which he struck out four. Darrell Kuntz led the Copperheads at the plate by going 3-4 with a double and two RBI. Starting pitcher Ron Nopwosky also provided some big pop at the plate, going 2-2 with three RBI.

Ryan Russell and Dan Thomas each smacked doubles for Phil’s Tire.

Carmichaels will next be in action tomorrow when they host Michael’s

Blaney Farm 10, Waynesburg 2-Blaney Farms continued to show that they are a team to beat in the league this year as they pounded Waynesburg in a Friday night showdown.

The Mud Puppies actually led after 2.5 innings, but Blaney Farms put up three runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead for good. Blaney starter Marty Fagler got the win. He tossed five innings, gave up just one earned run and struck out seven Waynesburg hitters.

Mike Hermann came up with the big hit of the night, a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth that ended the scoring for both teams. Jim Cales added two RBI on the night while going 2-2 with a pair of singles.

Blaney Farms will be back in action on Thursday, May 31 when they travel to Mill Run.
