Brownsville opened its girls tennis season Monday with a 5-0 Section 1-AA win over McGuffey. Angie Pelehac was a straight-sets winner, as were doubles teams Erin Ryan and Alyssa Conner and Kendall Connors and Rachel Rihaly. Ferrell Jellots and Brittany Chiovitti had to go three sets, but came away with wins nonetheless.

Penn-Trafford 4, Connellsville 1 – Penn-Trafford swept the singles matches and earned a split in the doubles in its Section 1-AAA win over Connellsville in the opening girls tennis match of the season for both teams.

Alyssa Augustine and Rachelle Wiltrout earned the Lady Falcons’ only victory, with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles. Megan Hudak (6-2, 6-1), Shelby Riazzi (6-1, 6-0) and Maria Iovino (6-0, 6-0) got singles wins for the Lady Warriors, while Brittany Baver and Nicole Slagle picked up a 7-5, 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles.

Boys golf

Uniontown 222, Brownsville 240 – Chris Steele’s 40 was good for medalist honors as the Red Raiders dispatched Brownsville in this non-section match at Duck Hollow Golf Club.

Ben Sampson and Mason Fordyce shot matching 41s to boost Uniontown (1-2) to its first win of the season, while Brownsville (0-2) got a 43 from Jacob Lewis.

Belle Vernon 199, Thomas Jefferson 207 – Bo Lustig shot a 3-under-par 33 at Willowbrook Golf Course to lead the Leopards to this exhibition win over the Jaguars. Tyber Lustig came in at 38 to help keep Belle Vernon (3-0) undefeated on the young season, while Thomas Jefferson got a 36 from Dan Joseph.

Bentworth 226, Carmichaels 233 – The Bearcats (2-0) stayed undefeated by keeping five golfers in the 40s in an exhibition win over the Mikes (1-1) at Carmichaels Golf Club.

Carmichaels’ Zach Wolfe tied Bentworth’s Clay Roman for medalist honors with a 40, and Brandon Wolfe followed with a 42 for the Mikes.
