Selanne’s hat trick carries Anaheim past Chicago

By Nhl Roundup 3 min read

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) – Teemu Selanne had his 20th career three-goal game to overtake Rocket Richard for 25th place on the career goal list to lead the Anaheim Ducks to a 6-3 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday night. Selanne, whose 47 goals during the 1998-99 season made him the first recipient of the Maurice Richard Trophy as the NHL’s top goal scorer, increased his career total to 546. Selanne has played in 1051 regular-season games – 73 more than Richard.

Patrick Sharp had two goals and an assist for Chicago, increasing his career high total to 31 and becoming the Blackhawks’ first 30-goal scorer since Eric Daze finished the 2001-02 season with 38.

Devils 2, Capitals 1, OT

WASHINGTON – John Madden backhanded a rebound under goalie Brent Johnson’s pad with 50 seconds remaining in overtime, and the New Jersey Devils moved into the first place in the Eastern Conference with a 2-1 victory Sunday over the Washington Capitals.

Martin Brodeur, making his 22nd consecutive start, made 37 saves for the Devils, who have won five straight and seven of eight to move ahead of idle Ottawa in a crowded race for the conference’s top seed.

Jamie Langenbrunner scored on a 5-on-3 power play early in the third period for the Devils. Alexander Semin tied the game about two minutes later for the Capitals, who picked up a point but are struggling to keep pace with first-place Carolina in the Southeast Division.

Flames 2, Wild 1

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Daymond Langkow and Craig Conroy scored, Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 38 shots and Calgary replaced Minnesota atop the Northwest Division.

Calgary has beaten Minnesota four straight times.

Mark Parrish scored for Minnesota, which is winless in three straight. The Wild are 4-6 since Feb. 2, with their wins coming in overtime or a shootout.

The Wild held a six-point advantage six days ago, but now trail the Flames by a point in the Northwest Division.

Coyotes 2, Blues 0

GLENDALE, Ariz. – Ilya Bryzgalov stopped 35 shots for his second shutout of the season and fourth of his career.

Zbynek Michalek and Joel Perrault scored for the Coyotes, who moved within three points of Nashville for the Western Conference’s final playoff spot. Phoenix is in 10th place, one point behind the Colorado Avalanche.

The Coyotes’ 31 wins are one more than they recorded all of last season.

Manny Legace made 18 saves for the Blues, who have lost three straight overall and eight of nine against Phoenix.

Oilers 3, Avalanche 2

EDMONTON, Alberta – Andrew Cogliano’s third-period goal helped the Edmonton Oilers end a three-game losing streak and ruin the return of Joe Sakic to the Colorado lineup.

Sam Gagner and Curtis Glencross also scored for Edmonton. Tyler Arnason and Ben Guite scored for Colorado, which activated Sakic from the injured reserve list after he missed 38 games because of a hernia operation on Dec. 28. It was the longest absence of his career.

Colorado has lost six of seven and is four points out of the eighth playoff spot in the West. Edmonton is seven more points back.
