Colonials clinch regular-season NEC title
FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) – A.J. Jackson scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Robert Morris to an 82-69 win over Sacred Heart 82-69 Thursday night. With the win, the Colonials (24-6, 15-2) clinched their first conference regular-season title since 1992.
Jeremy Chappell added 19 points. Tony Lee had 12 points and 10 boards for the Colonials.
Chauncey Hardy led Sacred Heart (16-12, 13-4) with 17 points, while Corey Hassan finished with 13 and Ryan Litke 11.
The Colonials dominated inside, outrebounding the Pioneers 42-29 and scoring 16 points off second-chance baskets.
Robert Morris led by as many as 17 points in the second half, but the Pioneers chipped away with a 10-2 run.
Hardy converted on a 3-pointer to pull Sacred Heart within 71-66 at the 2:51 mark, but Colonials were able to hang on.
