Erika Chory sinks game-winning goal for Mapletown Erika Chory tossed in 13 points including the game-winning basket in overtime as Mapletown edged Burgettstown 44-42 in non-section girls basketball action Saturday.
Teammate Kaitlyn Novak led all scorers with 15 points.
The Lady Maples scored on 16 field goals and shot 7-of-17 from the foul line.
Burgettstown’s points came on 17 field goals and an 8-of-13 performance from the charity stripe.
Emily Wilson paced Burgettstown with 14 points, including a perfect 4-of-4 outing from the line.
Mapletown improves its record to 8-4, while Burgettstown falls to 1-10.
Men’s basketball
Thomas More 93, Waynesburg University 34 – The Yellow Jackets suffered a loss to No. 5 Thomas More College in Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) action Saturday afternoon at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.
With the loss, Waynesburg falls to 1-10 overall and 0-3 in league play with 10-straight losses. Thomas More, which won the conference championship last season, remains undefeated at 11-0 overall and 4-0 in conference action.
The Yellow Jackets were led offensively by sophomore guard Johnna Deco’s nine points.
Waynesburg struggled with turnovers and its shooting touch against Thomas More, committing 20 turnovers and making just 28.6 percent (14-of-49) from the field.
Meanwhile, the Saints shot 52.5 percent (32-of-61) from the floor, including an impressive 46.4 percent (13-of-28) from beyond the arc.
Waynesburg returns to action on Wednesday with conference game at Westminster College in New Wilmington. The game against the Titans is schedule for a 6 p.m. start.
