Duke leads Carmichaels girls past Frazier, 39-30 Jordan Duke led Carmichaels with a game-high 15 points, en route to a 39-30 Section 3-A win over host Frazier.
Beth May also contributed to the Lady Mikes offense with seven points, including one from 3-point land.
Larissa Ellis led the Lady Commodore offense with 14 points, followed by Brittany Fisher’s eight.
Both teams struggled from the foul line. Carmichaels shot 10-of-25 and Frazier 6-of-12.
The winless Frazier squad (0-18) looks to chalk up one in the win column Friday at home against Trinity Christian.
East Allegheny 68, California 35 – Leah Hurst tossed in a game-high 22 points, as the Lady Wildcats breezed past the Lady Trojans in non-section action.
Mallory Barchetto added 12 points, including the visitors’ lone three-pointer, and Kara Dorsey chipped in 11.
East Allegheny (6-11) led 14-11 after one quarter, and 31-22 at the break. The Lady Wildcats broke the game open with a 17-6 third-quarter advantage.
Morgan Moluski paced California (5-10) with 15 points, including three treys.
Boys basketball
Washington 44, Brownsville 35 – Jordan Anderson paced Washington with 12 points, en route to a Section 5-AA win over visiting Brownsville.
Teammate Jordan Floyd was next in the scoring column with 10 points.
Andrew Roberts led all scorers with 17 points for Brownsville, including a 7-of-8 performance from the foul line.
Greg Allamon added six points.
The Falcons scored on 12 field goals and were 8-of-14 from the line, while the Little Prexies scored on 20 field goals and were 2-of-6 from the stripe.
Brownsville is back in action today against Carmichaels.
Franklin Regional 83, Albert Gallatin 68 – Nick Novak tossed in 24 points to lead Franklin Regional to a non-league victory over Albert Gallatin.
Dylan Pavlik and Tony Summers rounded out the twin-figure scoring for the Panthers (11-5) with 15 and 13 points, respectively.
Albert Gallatin’s Aaron Cromwell was high scorer in the game with 29 points.
The loss leaves the Colonials at 2-12 for the season.
Wilkinsburg 67, Mapletown 63 – A trio of Wilkinsburg players scored in double figures, highlighted by Shaleik Garland’s 18, en route to a non-section win over visiting Mapletown.
Ajay Poindexter was next in the scoring column with 15, followed by Chris Staten’s 10.
The Tigers held a three-point advantage after the first quarter, but Mapletown overtook Wilkinsburg at the half by four points.
The third and fourth quarters see-sawed, but in the end Wilkinsburg held on for the win.
Mapletown (8-8) returns home Friday to take on Carmichaels.
Charleroi 51, Waynesburg Central 41 – Eli Odabe netted a game-high 14 points, as Charleroi downed Waynesburg Central in Section 5-AA action.
Chad Pappasergi contributed to the Charleroi offense with 12 points, all of which came from 3-point land.
Ethan Hank and Taylor Andrisko each added 11 points, to round out the double-digit scoring.
Sean Fancher and John Sinnott led Wayensburg with nine points.
Fancher’s output included two 3-pointers, while Sinnott went 3-of-4 from the line.
The Raiders (3-11, 1-7) host Bentworth today.
Boys swimming
Uniontown 73, Charleroi 9 – Greg Lerch picked up individual wins in the 500 freestyle (7:21.09) and the 100 backstroke (1:18.61) to lead Uniontown past Charleroi in a non-section swim meet at home.
Lerch also teamed with Bryce Markwardt, Cameron McConkey and Keanu Glisan for a first-place finish in the 400 free relay with a time of 4:38.49.
Individually, Markwardt won the 200 freestyle in 2:41.69 and Glisan the 50 freestyle in 24.05.
Other Red Raider individual winners included Jonathan Jones in the diving (154.34), Dylan Gearing in the 100 butterfly (1:19.11), Brody Kelley in the 100 freestyle (1:01.26) and Wayne Workman in the 100 breaststroke (1:18.73).
The team of Allen Zieglar, Workman, Kelley and Glisan kicked things off for Uniontown with a first-place time of 2:09.79 in the 200 medley relay, while the team of Kelley, McConkey, Gearing and Glisan won the 200 free relay in 1:48.8.
The Red Raiders (2-5, 0-1) host Trinity Thursday.
Girls swimming
Uniontown 94, Charleroi 43 – Holly Nedley took home two WPIAL-qualifying times in the 200 freestyle (2:03.48) and the 100 freestyle (57.09), as Uniontown defeated Charleroi in a non-section meet against Charleroi.
Nedley teamed with Katie Patek, Lindsey Jesko and Rebecca Smith for a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:03.24.
In the 200 free relay, the team of Patek, Jess Dzara, Smith and Nedley won in 1:50.96, and in the 400 free relay, the team of Breanne Geller, Dzara, Corrina Engle and Abby Altman won in 3:49.88.
Individually, Dzara won the 200 IM in 2:34.59, Patek the 50 freestyle in 27.12 and Smith the 100 butterfly in (1.05.94).
Smith also racked up another win in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:10.14.
Teammates Josie Squib won the diving with a score of 163.20, followed by Heather Grimplin’s first-place finish in the 500 freestyle in 6:55.72.
Jesko rounded out the Lady Red Raider scoring with a win in the 100 breaststroke in 1:22.08.
Uniontown (6-1, 1-0) hosts Trinity Thursday.
