Scholarship luncheon set for today

By Mike Ciarochi 2 min read

In many respects, a high school graduation is an end. It marks the end of education and the beginning of the rest of one’s life. But for most high school graduates, it is also a beginning. The end of one learning session followed in the fall by the beginning of the college experience.

That’s the case for 14 special student athletes who will be honored at a 1 p.m. luncheon today at Uniontown Country Club. These 14 boys and girls represent the Class of 2008 in the Fayette County Student/Athlete Scholarship Program.

Sponsored by Davis and Davis Attorneys at Law, the program provides a $500 jump-start on a college education. Each of Fayette County’s seven high schools selects its top male and female student/athlete for the program.

They have thrived on a perfect blend of academic and athletic excellence.

As you may have read, most of these outstanding kids have benefited in the classroom from his or her work in athletics and all have benefited on the fields of play from their classroom experiences.

Each of the kids has been profiled in the Herald-Standard over the last week, so our readers have had a chance to get to know each of them a little better.

HSTV will be on hand to record the awards portion of the luncheon for future programming.

Following is the Fayette County Student/Athlete Scholarship Class of 2008:

– Lance Bryson and Jennifer Lewellen from Albert Gallatin High School.

– Neil Novak and Erika Coffey from Brownsville High School.

– Dustyn Pastors and Paige Puskar from Connellsville High School.

– Joey D’Auria and Jenna Boyles from Frazier High School.

– Tyler Erdely and Mia White from Geibel Catholic High School.
