Valentino leads South to victory in ProGrass Classic
Recent California graduate Donte Valentino did a little bit of everything when it came to offense as he led the South to a 14-10 victory over the North in the 12th annual ProGrass Football Classic, which was held last night at Waynesburg Central High School. The game was called at halftime because of lightning.
The South grabbed the first lead of the night when Valentino, who was lined up at quarterback, hit Charleroi’s Ethan Hank on a 53-yard touchdown catch and run just 1:42 into the first quarter. Monessen’s Roger Brandemarte tacked on the extra point to put the South up 7-0.
The North Squad responded quickly when Washington running back Shawn Vaughn broke off a 19-yard touchdown less than two minutes later. The extra point tied the contest at 7-7.
The North took their one and only lead of the game on a field goal at the beginning of the second quarter, but the South sealed the victory late in the half.
Again, it was Valentino doing the damage as he ripped off a 45-yard quarterback keeper with just 1:06 left in the contest. Another Brandemarte extra point brought up the final total of 14-10.
