Brown leads Connellsville past Uniontown Uniontown couldn’t overcome a hat trick by Connellsville’s Samantha Brown as the Lady Falcons posted a 6-3 win in Section 6-AAA girls soccer action Wednesday night at Uniontown. Brown scored with 27:03 left in the first half to put the Lady Falcons in front 2-0. She later scored at 16:30 of the first half, and with 3:05 remaining in the game, she iced the hat trick.

Krista Jackson scored twice for the home team, which couldn’t overcome a 3-0 halftime deficit.

Allison Panzella knocked in two goals for the Lady Falcons in the second half as they move to 2-0 in the section and 3-0 overall.

Jessica Ohler and Ashlyn Fratto had four saves each.

Connellsville had 35 shots on Uniontown keeper Sarah Mayse who made 29 stops. The Lady Raiders could only manage 11 shots.

Connellsville travels to Mt. Pleasant on Saturday for a non-section contest.

Uniontown drops to 0-1 in the section.

Girls golf

Mt. Pleasant 166, Indiana 255 -Mt. Pleasant remained undefeated in girls golf action with a victory over Indiana Wednesday at Norvelt Golf Course.

The Lady Vikings’ 166 was the lowest score in three years of girls golf action at Norvelt.

Nicole Smith led the way with a 38 and was followed by Maci Seibel’s 42.

Maria Kancuh (43) and Megan Smith (43) rounded out the scoring for Mt. Pleasant as it moved to 5-0 in the section and 6-0 overall.

Ronnie Bujdos (52) and Jeannie Bujdos (56) were Indiana’s top two golfers.

Boys golf

Frazier 197, Jefferson-Morgan 211 – Frazier shot a new team-record in defeating Jefferson-Morgan in boys’ non-section golf action Wednesday afternoon at Linden Hall.

Matt Adams (38) led the charge for the Commodores who have improved to 3-1 in section play and 4-1 overall. He was joined by teammates Craig Rebovich (39) and Nick Hawranko (39).

Jefferson-Morgan’s Josh Kokoska (39) and Rob DeHaas (39) had good rounds for the Rockets who fall to 2-2 in section play and 2-3 overall.

Zachary Lash (40) and Dustin Lerda (41) were the final two golfers for the Commodores, and Zach Berkstresser (43), Alex Rush (45) and Ian Lawrence (45) rounded out the scoring for the Rockets.

High school volleyball

Charleroi 3, California 0 – California was shut out by Charleroi in a non-section match at California.

Charleroi won the first game 25-12, then pulled out a 25-18 win in the second game, followed by a 25-14 victory in the third.

With the loss, California falls to 1-1 overall. California hosts West Greene today.

Women’s soccer

Mercyhurst 3, California (Pa.) 2 – California University of Pennsylvania lost a tough decision to No. 21 ranked Mercyhurst in the PSAC West opener for both teams at California Wednesday afternoon.

Mercyhurst scored the first three goals in the first 20 minutes and looked on its way to a rout, but the Vulcans bounced back for two of their own in the late minutes.

Jodi McDonald scored her second goal of the season on a rebound to give her team life. Sam Ragney, after assisting on McDonald’s goal, scored one of her own at 75:31 of the contest but California just didn’t have enough firepower in the end.

Mercyhurst improves to 1-0 in the conference and 3-0 overall while California falls to 0-1 in conference play and 2-1 overall.
