4 players, 4 counties share Herald-Standard Touchdown Club lead

2 min read

Alphabetically, they are Jefferson-Morgan’s Hans Lubich (Greene County), Beth-Center’s Dom Moore (Washington County), Frazier’s Kevin Shanaberger (Fayette County) and Belle Vernon’s Cory Williams (Westmoreland County). The quartet shares the lead having scored five touchdowns each for 30 points. Neither Williams nor Shanaberger scored last weekend, as Belle Vernon and Frazier suffered their first losses of the season. Shanaberger’s touchdown total, however, was increased by one thanks to an email from a Commodore fan.

The email correctly pointed out that Shanaberger had scored three touchdowns on opening night, yet had been attributed with only two scores. His corrected total puts him in a tie for the top spot.

Moore scored three touchdowns last Friday in the Bulldogs’ 58-14 win over Carmichaels. His B-C teammate Joshua Lockett scored twice and added a two-point conversion run to lift him to 22 points on the season, good for eighth place in the Touchdown Club rankings.

Lubich had to wait an extra day, but scored three touchdowns in the Rockets’ 28-14 win at Geibel Catholic Saturday to pull his way into the four-way tie atop the rankings.

Three players are tied for fifth place, all with four touchdowns and 24 points. All three are from Fayette County schools. Laurel Highlands’ Dylan Clifford scored twice in the Mustangs’ 43-21 loss at Yough to give him four TDs on the season.

Uniontown’s Brian Grady also had two scores, one on a pass from Doogie Sanner and the other on an interception return, both in the first quarter, during Uniontown’s 28-7 win over Derry.

Geibel Catholic’s Christian Henckel scored a touchdown in the Gators’ loss to J-M after opening the season with three touchdowns against Avella.

Lockett is alone with 22 points on three touchdowns and a pair of two-point conversions, while Albert Gallatin’s Jeremiah Karpency is next at 20 points, with three touchdowns and a two-pointer.

Nine players are tied for 10th with 18 points on three touchdowns each.
