Beth-Center pounds Jefferson-Morgan, 48-0
The Bulldogs made the short trip to Jefferson-Morgan Friday night and swaggered home with a staggering 48-0 win over the Rockets, setting up a showdown with Monessen in Fredericktown next Friday. “I don’t know if this is going to jinx us, but I’m looking forward to playing Monessen next week,” said Beth-Center head coach Ed Woods.
A year ago, the Greyhounds ended B-C’s season with a 32-6 victory in the first round of the WPIAL playoffs.
On Friday, it was about as one-sided as a game can get. Beth-Center finished with 469 yards of total offense, and held previously unbeaten Jefferson-Morgan to a paltry 20 yards and two first downs.
The Rockets (3-1, 1-1) didn’t advance past their own 39-yard line, and had two second-half punts blocked as well.
“Either they’re that good or we’re that bad,” said J-M head coach Jan Haiden. “We got a good beating. There’s no doubt about that.”
Beth-Center senior wideout Brant Labrasca hauled in four passes for 170 yards, and scored three first-half touchdowns, as Beth-Center jumped out to a 27-0 halftime lead.
Labrasca came into Friday’s game with one reception this season and hadn’t scored a touchdown at any level since he began playing football in seventh grade.
But in a span covering three possessions and eight plays, Labrasca beat Jefferson-Morgan’s Jake Sigley twice and Brent Moskola once for three easy touchdown receptions from quarterback Dom Moore.
“I felt I had to step up as a senior,” Labrasca said.
Labrasca was so wide open, he nearly had too much time to think about making the catches.
“I was definitely nervous,” he said. “The main thing I was telling myself as the ball was coming was to, No. 1, catch the ball. And No. 2, when I caught it, to try to get as much yardage as I could.”
Sophomore Jeff Tarley added 112 yards rushing and two touchdowns, and backups Sal Faieta and DeShan Brown also scored, as the Bulldogs improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in their first year of play in the Tri-County South Conference.
