18th running of Everhart Invitational set today

1 min read

All seven of the county’s cross country programs plus local teams Waynesburg Central and Southmoreland will be part of the 20-plus team event. Also included in that total will be teams for Washington, Westmoreland and Allegheny counties, and teams from outside Pennsylvania. Two of those teams hail from Virginia and have local ties. Laurel Highlands graduate Jeremy Burnworth and Uniontown alum Mike Tanner traveled in to take part in the annual invitational. Both are coaches of high school teams from Virginia.

Tanner knows a little something about the event in that he was the boys champion in 1992, the second year of the annual event.

The top four male finishers from last year have graduated so spots in the top 10 should be up for grabs. Norwin successfully defended its team title in 2007. Norwin’s Leslie Kovach was the female winner last year with the Lady Knights winning their team crown.

The junior high race begins at 9 a.m. with the boys varsity to begin an hour later. The girls varsity race is at 10:30 with the junior varsity races to follow.

The awards ceremony is scheduled to begin at noon.
