Yellow Jackets lose to Thomas More
Bryan Arbes tied two school records for most field goals made in a game with four and longest field goal made with a 49-yard kick at 6:16 of the third quarter to narrow Thomas More’s lead to 27-12. Arbes also successfully kick field goals of 48, 34 and 38 yards to tie the Waynesburg record.
Scott Cree returned a punt 88 yards to the house at 3:46 of the third and the Yellow Jackets were back in down 27-19 after Arbes kick. Thomas More came right back and scored on a 29-yard pass from Trevor Stellman to C.J. Collier with 2:54 left to play in the third and a Dustin Zink PAT put Thomas More up 36-19.
Billy Becker’s six-yard run with 4:30 left in the game pulled the Yellow Jackets within eight after Arbes kick, but Waynesburg dug itself into a hole early in the game and couldn’t complete the comeback.
Thomas More (1-1, 1-0) jumped on the Yellow Jackets early with three touchdowns in the first 15 minutes of play to go up 20-0. Anthony Knott scored the first touchdown at 6:43 on a 44-yard run.
Chris Farley hauled in a 21-yard pass from Stallman at 4:24 and Nick Olthaus caught a 25-yard pass from Stallman with 32 seconds to play in the first as Thomas More racked up a near perfect quarter with the exception of a failed Zink kick.
Becker led the Yellow Jackets with 27 carries for 118 yards and a touchdown.
The Yellow Jackets fall to 1-2 on the season and 0-1 in conference play.
