On the Lanes
D’Andrea, King and Davis rolled some outstanding games There were some nice scores shot over the past couple of weeks. How about? NOT LIKE THE OLD MAN: “Quiet” Chris D’Andrea had us all swelling with pride when he rattled off 10-in-a-row this past Thursday. The 17 year old is so soft spoken and it seems nothing can rattle him. It is just a shame that after he threw the first one in the 10th frame, the balls got stuck down in the pin area. Even though he never made a peep about it, the 3-5 minute wait until they got free must have seemed like a lifetime. Still, even with the miss on number 11, Chris finished up with a dandy game of 286, which represents 101 pins above his average. That is more than enough to earn him the “100 Over” award from the USBC.
It is only a matter of time until he knocks down that first perfect game.
SPEAKING OF FIRST PERFECT: How about our buddy and ex-teammate Lou King this past Monday Night in the Manor Majors? The lefty is carrying a very questionable 188 average. I say “questionable” because if it weren’t due to about 3 “oops” balls every night, the guy would be well over 200. Usually right in the heat of a big time game, ole Lou will let go with a shot that heads straight for the gutter-“do not pass go, and do not collect your 200 dollars”. Right after which, nearly every bowler in the place can be heard saying “oops”.
Well he didn’t do “oops” Monday when he crushed the pocket 12 straight times to record his first ever 300 game. Not only does he get the 300 ring from the USBC, but also his game was 112 pins over for a USBC “100 pins over Game” award, and his series of 752 was 188 pins over for another USBC award of “140 pins over Series”.
That was some night, Lou.
FAIRBANK REPORT: Jimmy Matis wrote me to say that Danny Davis rolled a 300 perfect game at the Fairbank Bowling Center last Saturday night during the Traveler’s League. I have lost count of Danny’s 300 game total. He has taken time out over the past few seasons to rolling some PBA regionals, and has just gotten better and better. All that work and experience has certainly paid off. He could unleash with a 300 game at any minute at any house, on any pattern.
Congratulations Danny.
