Schnorr wins Phil Foley 5K
Wade Schnorr seized the pace of the 26th annual Phil Foley 5K Memorial Run/Walk held Saturday morning by the turnaround, and the Connellsville graduate didn’t relent on the back half of the Yough River Trail course to finish first overall with his winning time of 16:49.57. With Schnorr in control at the finish, a battle for second played out with Mount Pleasant junior Eric Porter just holding off Connellsville’s Jesse Irwin. Porter finished second in 17:21.66 with Irwin close behind in 17:22.73. Not as much drama in the female 5K with Dunbar’s Debbie Conner easily outdistancing the field for first place in 20:17.87. Mount Pleasant’s Dana Newlin finished second in 21:25.92 with Susan Pelfrey placing third with a time of 22:39.60.
A couple of familiar faces walked to the top spots on the awards stand in the 5K walk. Connellsville’s Matthew Ptacek was first overall with his winning time of 31:12.56, while Jamie Brooks, also from Connellsville, won the women’s walk and was second overall in a time of 32:05.84.
Farmington’s Clyde Johnson was the second male to cross the finish line with his time of 36:20.28 with Connellsville’s George Hinkle placing third in 39:59.42.
New Stanton’s Carol Wilson was the second female to finish the walk with her time of 36:23.50, while Uniontown’s Ginny McFadden was third in 37:03.50.
The race had 91 runners and 22 walkers finish the 3.1-mile course.
