Thompson’s third RBI keys Blue Mountain win

Jeff Thompson’s third RBI of the game proved to be the game-winner Monday to lift Blue Mountain to a 7-3 Fayette County Baseball League home victory. Thompson’s two-out double in the first led Blue Mountain to a 3-0 advantage, but Mill Run countered with a pair of runs in the top of the second. Blue Mountain (5-7-1) extended its lead with a single run in the fourth and two more in the sixth. Mill Run added a run in the top of the seventh.

Perry Cunningham (1-2) went the distance to earn the win, striking out six and walking one.

Thompson had a three-hit night for Blue Mountain while teammate Dan Novak finished with a double and single.

Rob Egan went 3 2/3 innings in the loss, striking out three and walking four. Rob Orndorff had a triple for Mill Run (10-5-1) while Clay Hurley finished with three singles.

Mario’s 9, Hopwood 2 – Zach Patterson belted a two-run home run in the first, and Mike Hermann cracked a two-run homer in the second to lead Mario’s to Fayette County Baseball League road win.

Mario’s led 7-0 after two innings on the strength of the two home runs. The visitors scored a single run in the top of the third, and Hopwood countered with its first run in the bottom of the inning. Mario’s scored one more in the fifth while Hopwood tallied its final run in the bottom of the seventh.

Wes Kisner pitched six innings for his first win of the season, allowing one run on five hits while striking out four and walking three. Patterson, Eric Fudala and Cory Sawka all doubled for Mario’s.

Mario’s (13-2) hosts Watson & Sons tonight. Hopwood is on the road Wednesday at Blue Mountain.
