Friday’s local sports roundup

Brownsville girls fall to Burgettstown Believe it or not, there was a high school athletic event played Friday, despite constant and steady rain throughout the area. Brownsville traveled to Burgettstown for a softball game. Burgettstown got all the runs it would need in the first two innings of a 7-2 home win over the Lady Falcons in Section 2-AA softball action.

Stacy Knox absorbed the loss despite giving up only five hits. The Lady Falcons committed four errors that proved costly, as Burgettstown plated two runs in each the first, second and fifth innings to go with a single tally in the fourth. Chrissy Bentley’s double was the only extra base hit for Burgettstown (10-4, 10-3) in support of winning pitcher Chloe Romms.

Tiffany Ziglear’s triple highlighted Brownsville’s five-hit attack, but the Falcons (3-11, 2-9) managed only single tallies in the third and seventh innings.

Brownsville hopes to host a 3 p.m. game today against South Fayette, if the weather cooperates.
