Baseball Vulcans Busti, DiMatteo honored Carmichaels graduate and California (Pa.) shortstop Shayne Busti and outfielder Sam DiMatteo were named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-Atlantic First Team.

Busti led the Vulcans with a .415 batting average and added 55 RBI. He also hit 23 extra bases and sported a .473 on-base percentage.

DiMatteo led California in eight offensive categories in 2009. He finished the year with a team-leading 70 hits, 12 home runs, 57 runs scored, 40 stolen bases and a .705 slugging percentage.

Golf

Revak, Mitrisin score holes-in-one

Mike Revak, Sr. of Uniontown made a hole-in-one May 23 at the Springdale Golf Course. Using an eight iron on the 14th hole, Revak made the 130-yard shot with Tom Battaglia, Boo Pisula, Maria Battaglia and Marcus Boskovich as witnesses.

Kevin Mitrisin, a junior at Laurel Highlands, scored a hole-in-one May 24 at the Arrowhead Lakes Golf Course in Galena, Ohio. Mitrisin’s father, Mark, Jack Will of Michigan and Kevin Will of Columbus, Ohio, witnessed the nine-iron shot on the third hole, which measures 122 yards.

High School

Scholar athletes honored by Mon Valley hall

The Mid Mon Valley Sports Hall of Fame will honor several local athletes June 19 during the 16th annual induction banquet held at The Willow Room in Rostraver Township at 5:30 p.m.

The 2009 Senior High Scholar Athletes include Zachary Wardle and Cori Stark, Belle Vernon, Stacey Knox, Brownsville, along with Ben Carson and Christina Pankratz, California.
