Waynesburg drops volleyball triangular

Waynesburg had a tough day at home Saturday, dropping both ends of a volleyball triangular to visiting Saint Vincent and Geneva. The Yellow Jackets were swept by Geneva, 25-10, 25-17, 25-14, and lost to Saint Vincent, 25-17, 26-24, 25-23. The Lady Bearcats defeated Geneva, 25-12, 25-13, 19-25, 25-14.

Presley Cupp led the Yellow Jackets in the match against Geneva with 22 digs. Rachell Storm finished with 13 digs while Jordan Barton had 11. Carly Smithyman led the offense with 15 assists.

Carly Schubert had a team-high 12 kills in the loss to the Lady Bearcats.

Pitt-Greensburg Invitational – Waynesburg finished fourth out of 11 teams as Megan Donovan finished 11th overall with a time of 26:08. Uniontown grad Michelle Naymick was 20th with a time of 27:36, and Janet Carson placed 34th in the field of 90 runners with a time of 28:55.

Pitt-Greensburg Invitational – Waynesburg were sixth out of nine teams with Kyle Edwards finishing 34th in a time of 30:42. Adam Swingle was close behind in 32nd place in a time of 30:48.

Westminster 5, Waynesburg 1 – Ryan Hartz scored the lone goal for the Yellow Jackets in a home PAC loss to the Titans. Goalkeeper Tyler Hellwig made four saves for Waynesburg.

Westminster 3, Waynesburg 0 – Jenn Cantella and Amanda Hummer combined to shut out the Yellow Jackets, and Sarah Nee scored a pair of goals in the first half to lead the visiting Titans to a PAC road victory.

Connellsville grad Katrina Kelly made eight saves in the net for Waynesburg in the first half. Jaime Williamson turned aside three shots in the second half.

Uniontown 4, Albert Gallatin 1 – The Lady Raiders picked up a Section 6-AAA victory over the Lady Colonials. Uniontown improves to 2-7-0 in the section and 3-8-0 overall, while Albert Gallatin falls to 0-9-0 and 0-11-0.

In other Section 6-AAA action, Connellsville (6-3-0, 7-6-0) remained in one match ahead of Waynesburg Central in the fight for the final section playoff berth with a 3-2 victory overall Laurel Highlands (3-6-0, 4-8-0). Waynesburg Central (5-4-0, 6-6-0) defeated Yough, 4-1.

Southmoreland 7, Uniontown 1 – Andrew Sikora and Robert Smith both tallied a hat trick to lead the Scotties to a Section 3-AA victory over the Red Raiders. Josh Millslagle also scored for Southmoreland.

Aaron Krysak scored the lone Uniontown goal.

Geibel Catholic 3, Connellsville 2 – The Gators and Falcons took a break from section action with Geibel Catholic securing the non-section win. Geibel improves to 9-3-0 overall. Connellsville falls to 3-11-0 overall.

Chartiers-Houston 17, Frazier 0 – Joey Joscsak scored on a 4-yard run in the first quarter, and the Bucs’ defense made the touchdown stand for a Black Hills Conference victory over the visiting Commodores.

Zach Hamilton connected on a 36-yard field goal in the second quarter and made both extra point attempts, the second coming after Mykel Dorsey scored late in the second quarter on a 69-yard run.

Chase Kirmeyer led Frazier with 40 yards rushing.

Ringgold 24, Elizabeth-Forward 35; Ringgold 23, Albert Gallatin 36; Elizabeth-Forward 27, Albert Gallatin 28 – The Colonials dropped both ends of a Section 2-AAA triangular hosted by Elizabeth-Forward at Round Hill Park.

The Warriors’ Josh Gibbons finished first in 18:37. Calvin Fenton was the first Albert Gallatin runner across the line, finishing in 19:39. Teammate Kyle Oldland was 23 seconds behind in fifth place. Jeremy Rich finished ninth with a time of 21:40.

Elizabeth-Forward 15, Ringgold 50; Elizabeth-Forward 15, Albert Gallatin 50 – The Lady Warriors were the only team in the Section 2-AAA triangular at Round Hill Park to field a full squad, sweeping past the Lady Rams and the Lady Colonials.

Braelyn Tracey, Elizabeth-Forward’s lone runner, finished first in 26:19. Savannah Ardabell, the only runner for Albert Gallatin, finished fourth in 31:15.

Waynesburg Central 187, Carmichaels 226 – The Raiders remained in position to secure a share of the Division II, Section 8 crown with a victory over the visiting Mikes at Rohanna’s Golf Course.

The Raiders’ Ben Virgin shot a 3-over 36, and Loren Dukate finished with a 37. Emily Rohanna, Aaron Haywood and Matt King all shot 38.

The Mikes’ Zach Wolfe was medalist with a 2-over 35. Brandon Wolfe also broke 40 with a 37.

Waynesburg (12-3) improves to 9-2 in the section with one match remaining against Washington. Carmichaels slips to 6-5 in the section and 7-6 overall.

Westminster 9, Waynesburg 0 – The visiting Titans swept past the Yellow Jackets for a Presidents’ Athletic Conference victory. Waynesburg slips to 3-2 in the PAC and 3-4 overall, while Westminster improves to 3-0 in the conference and 9-0 overall.
