Ulmer competes in Ironman Triathlon

Uniontown’s Bill Ulmer made his first Ironman Triathlon in Hawaii a memorable on Saturday, finishing 1,270th overall among males with a total time of 12:46:41. Ulmer, who donned Bib No. 632, completed the 2.4-mile ocean swim in 1:07:30, standing 57th in his age division and 765th male as he transitioned into the bike ride. He completed the 112-mile ride around the lava fields in 6:11:28, an average speed of 18.09 mph. Ulmer slipped to 123rd in his age division and 1,134th male as he prepared for the run.

Ulmer completed the marathon (26.2 miles) in 5:14:21, a 12:00 per mile pace, to finish 142nd in his age division as well as the 1,270th male. Although he has completed in other Ironman Triathlon events, this was the first time Ulmer, who won a lottery for a spot in the field, swam, biked and ran in the oldest of all Ironman Triathlons.
