Fayette Campus perfect in conference
Penn State Fayette, the Eberly Campus, defeated Penn State Greater Allegheny, 3-0 Thursday to finish its season undefeated in conference play. The Roaring Lions (15-3, 14-0) won by match scores of 25-6, 25-13 and 25-4. Leah Ambrosini scored 10 service points and had 11 kills. Katie Sleaseman had eight aces and 19 assists.
Penn State Fayette next travels to the main campus for the Penn State University Athletic Conference tournament Oct. 31 and Nov. 1.
Waynesburg 3, Grove City 2 – Waynesburg recovered from a two-match deficit to pick up a President’s Athletic Conference win at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse in Waynesburg.
The visiting Wolverines (6-16, 3-5) took the first two sets by scores of 25-13 and 25-22. The Yellow Jackets (5-16, 2-8) recovered with wins of 25-20, 25-13 and 16-14.
Jordan Barton led Waynesburg with 15 kills and 24 digs as Courtney Fain added nine kills and Carly Schubert chipped in eight. Carly Smithyman recorded a double-double with 38 assists and 12 digs. Rachell Storm had 37 digs.
Waynesburg returns to action Saturday for a PAC match at Thiel College.
Geibel Catholic 3, Carmichaels 0 – Maria Ross scored 17 service points and an ace to lead Geibel to a Section 5-A win at Carmichaels.
Geibel won by scores of 25-6, 25-7 and 25-13.
Breanne Dowden had 17 assists for Geibel (8-6, 7-4). Carly Ciarochi had 7 kills and a pair of blocks and Marney Hillen added nine kills. Annie Caccimelio chipped in with nine service points and an ace.
Carmichaels drops to 4-9 overall and 4-6 in Section 5-A.
Waynesburg Central 3, Uniontown 0 – Waynesburg swept Uniontown at home in Section 7-AA play.
The Red Raiders (5-8, 2-6) fell by scores of 25-14, 25-22 and 25-15.
Avella 3, California 0 – Allison Corle had nine aces as Natalie Glaum had 15 assists and seven aces to lead Avella to a non-section win on the road.
Madison Drazich had six kills and Allison Corle added nine aces for Avella.
Washington 3, Brownsville 0 – Washington swept Section 7-A rival Brownsville at home.
Washington (5-4) won by scores of 25-14, 25-23 and 25-20.
Emily Konter scored five service points, eight assists and three blocks for Brownsville (9-6, 5-5). Karmen Bruschi added five kills, four service points and a block. Chevelle Stoken scored four service points and three kills as Karly Peton added eight service points and a block.
Steel Valley 2, Uniontown 0 – Ben Bobick scored in the first half and Steve Hixon added an insurance goal in the second half to lead Steel Valley to a Section 3-AA win at Uniontown.
Steel Valley (5-10, 4-9) held an 8-6 advantage in shots on goal.
Anthony Sparks made six saves for Uniontown (2-13, 2-10).
Baldwin 3, Albert Gallatin 0 – Baldwin scored every goal in the first half en route to a Section 3-AA win.
Mike Backo, Ark James and Vinny Thornton scored the goals for Baldwin (9-6, 8-4).
Shawn Smearcheck made 13 saves for the Colonials (4-12, 1-10).
Beth-Center 11, Brentwood 4 – Sean Brierly scored a hat trick to lead Beth-Center to a Section 4-A win on Senior Night.
Shane Urbine, Anthony Elias and Cameron Matesich each scored a pair of goals for the Bulldogs (6-9, 2-8). Tyler Hagler and Jeremiah Lewis scored a goal each.
Josh Mackin scored a hat trick for Brentwood (2-11-1, 1-9-1). Brandon Barone scored the other goal.
