Porterfield tops early Touchdown Club ranks

Jarrett Porterfield of Mapletown jumped to an early lead in the Herald-Standard Touchdown Club rankings. Porterfield scored four touchdowns in Mapletown’s 41-33 loss at Bentworth Friday night to give him 24 points scored on the young season.

California’s Wade Stinnett and Geibel Catholic’s Christian Henckel are tied for second with 18 points. Stinnett scored all three touchdowns in the Trojans’ 20-16 win at Frazier and Henckel had three TDs in the Gators’ 44-29 loss at Avella.

Two Albert Gallatin players, Patrick Kopas and Grayling Sanders, are tied for third place with 14 points each. Kopas and Sanders scored two touchdowns each and added a two-point conversion each in the Colonials’ 41-2 win at Wilkinsburg Saturday.

The Herald-Standard Touchdown Club recognizes local football players who score points for their team. At the end of the season, the Touchdown Club champion will receive a trophy and a traveling plaque will be placed in the trophy case at his high school for a year.

Seven players are tied for fifth place with two touchdowns and 12 points each. Belle Vernon’s Joey Walko is first among kickers with nine points on a field goal and six extra point kicks in the Leopards’ 45-17 win over Laurel Highlands.
