Geibel Catholic nips St. Joseph?s, 2-1
By the Herald Standard Geibel Catholic scored two goals in the second half after falling behind 1-0 to St. Joseph?s to win 2-1 in Section 6-AA girls soccer action Monday.
Rebecca Sandor scored with 19:00 remaining and Hannah Lazuka scored with 9:00 left for Geibel (5-2, 3-0). Megan Beck had eight saves.
Katie Hayes had the lone goal for St. Joseph?s.
Connellsville 3, Yough 2, OT ? Ally Panzella scored with 7:52 remaining in overtime to lift Connellsville to a Section 6-AAA win over Yough.
Jenna Luczka and Lacey Rosenstill scored in the first half for Connellsville (4-4, 3-1) before Yough scored two consecutive goals.
Kristen Brown tallied a goal in the first half and Taylor Hampshire tied the game with 57 seconds remaining in regulation to force the extra session.
Ashlyn Fratto had 17 saves for the Lady Falcons and Alayna Beers made 11 for Yough.
Waynesburg Central 5, Uniontown 3 ? Waynesburg scored three straight goals in the first half and led 4-1 at the break en route to a Section 6-AAA win over Uniontown.
Taylor Augustine scored both of her goals in the first half for Waynesburg. Julie Phillips, Mary Burns and Cassie Jordan also scored for the Lady Raiders.
Meggie Menarcheck scored a hat trick for Uniontown (2-4). Waynesburg held a 16-7 advantage in shots on goal.
Boys soccer
Beth-Center 5, Brownsville 0 ? Beth-Center peppered Brownsville with 30 shots on goal in a non-section win.
Brandon Milloy scored two goals for the Bulldogs. Anthony Elias, Shane Erbine and Shawn Brierley also scored.
Brownsville drops to 0-7, 0-5 on the season.
Girls volleyball
Brownsville 3, Charleroi 0 ? Karmen Bruschi scored nine service points to go with four aces and five kills as Brownsville earned a Section 7-AA win with match scores of 25-16, 25-19 and 25-10.
Emily Konter scored 13 service points, four aces, nine kills, five assists and two blocks for the Lady Falcons (4-2, 2-1). Chevelle Stoken added eight service points and two aces.
Connellsville 3, Geibel Catholic 1 ? Marney Hillen led Geibel Catholic with 10 kills, seven service points and four aces but it wasn?t enough to stop Connellsville in a non-section game.
Carly Ciarochi had 14 kills for the Lady Gators (2-3, 2-2). Breanne Dowden had 25 assists as Maria Ross scored eight service points and two aces.
Men?s golf
California (Pa.) wins at Allegheny ? shot a 26-over 602 to win the Guy W. Kuhn Invitational Monday. Allegheny hosted the event at the Meadville Country Club.
Justin Newbauer and James Currie led the Vulcans by finishing in the top ten. Newbauer shot 149 to tie for sixth place and Currie came in ninth with a 150.
Tourney dates set
The Community Foundation of Fayette County has been names the beneficiary of the annual Pro-Am/Pro-Pro Golf Outing Fall Classic.
The pro-am is scheduled for Wed. Sept. 30 and the pro-pro is Oct. 1-2 at the Uniontown Country Club.

Portis grabs honor
California (Pa.) quarterback Josh Portis has been named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Offensive Player of the Week.
Portis threw for five touchdowns and 262 yards in a 52-10 win over Gannon on Saturday. The Maryland transfer ranks fourth in the PSAC in total offense (225.2) and efficiency (126.3).
