Three first time winners at Roaring Knob
MARKLEYSBURG — Tim Senic of Elkins, W.Va., secured his second American Racer Tire Super Late Model feature last Saturday night at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex.
Doug Horton drove the Sprout Cossell owned car to his first win in the Krause Electric FASTRAK Late Models, while Bradley Nesline, out of Bittinger, Md., won his career first-ever feature in the Ft. Necessity Garage Chargers.
Cody Quarrick won his first FWD 4 Cylinder Roadrunner main. Louie Krushansky (AMRA Modifieds) and Todd Dennis (TC Race Car Parts Street Stocks) won their fifth features of the season.
Newell’s Todd Dennis wrecked his car in hot laps but last week’s winner Bob Neratka lent him his car. Dennis passed Bob Nelson on lap four to take the lead in the 15-lap TC Race Car Parts Street Stock feature. Once out front Dennis wasn’t going to be denied and drove the borrowed car home to his fifth feature win of the year. Nelson claimed second followed by Charlie McClain, Barry Faris and Bob Miller. Sixth through tenth were Jason Gibbs, Grady Palmer, Ron Howard, Chris Lucy and Ryan Newman. Newman and Joe Wrona were the heat winners.
Senic started on the pole in the 25-lap American Racer Tire Super Late Model feature and that was all she wrote. Senic was never really challenged as he led green to checker for his second checker of the year. A caution on lap 16 saw Scott Rhodes, Billy Holbert and Gary Dalton (who were third thru fifth) all involved in a spin sending them to the tail. Mel Minnick, Jr. came home second ahead of Bob Gordon, Matt Cosner, Danny Pugh, Dalton, Holbert, Paul Dominick, Danny Mitchell and Gary Gellner. Heats were won by Minnick and Holbert.
Nesline won his career first feature in fine fashion leading all 12-laps of the Ft. Necessity Garage Charger main. Nesline had his hands full as the first seven cars were in a freight train. Four-time winner Kenny Burkholder moved into second on lap 9 and a caution appeared soon after. Nesline had his hand full the final three laps to secure the win. Burkholder held second followed by Kyle Burkholder, Ed Vogel, CJ Nicola, Justin Howell, Brad Jenkins, Marty Spade, Jr. and JT Baird. Kenny Burkholder and Spade secured heat wins.
In the Krause Electric FASTRAK Late Models, Bruceton Mills, W.Va., driver Doug Horton sat in victory lane after the checker flew. Horton, driving Sprout Cossell’s No. 15, started on the pole to lead all 20 laps for his first win of the year. Horton was sailing out front until Ryan Montgomery took over second on lap 13. Montgomery slowly reeled the veteran driver in but came up just short for a solid second place finish. Dan Angelicchio was third with John Over, Bobby Cossell, Troy Shields, Nolan Dalton, Shane Hitt, Tim Snare, Jr. and Mike Lewis rounding out the top ten. Heat checkers went to Angelicchio and Horton.
Morgantown’s Louie Krushansky blew by leader Vic Vandergrift on lap three and pulled away to his fifth 15-lap AMRA Modified feature.
Current Motordrome Speedway point leader and four-time winner there, Cody Quarrick made his second trip to Roaring Knob a good one. Quarrick led all 10-laps but had to fend off three-time Knob winner Steve Settle to earn his first feature win on the dirt. Behind Quarrick at the finish was Settle, Billy Bunnell, Cindy Rhodes, Todd Detrick, Allen Fortney, Corey Faris, Dustin Detrick, Jason Frazier and Mylan Markovich, Jr. Bunnell and Settle were the heat winners.
Mechanics Races were held for all divisions. Winners were Josh Cramer (Super Lates), Randy Murphy (FASTRAK), Ralph McClain (Street Stocks), Eric Collins (Chargers) and Paul Koffler, Jr. (Roadrunners).
Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex will be off Saturday for the Fayette County Fair, but will return on Aug. 13 with the Three State Flyers Series for Super Late Models paying $4000 to win. The Steel Block Bandit Series are also on the card with a $2000 to win show. Krause Electric FASTRAK Late Models , TC Race Car Parts Street Stocks, Ft. Necessity Garage Chargers and Roadrunners will also participate. Emods will not be running on August 13. They will run every other week for the remainder of the season.
