Brownsville tennis team raises record to 2-0
Brownsville tennis team raised its record to 2-0 Friday with a 5-0 Section 1, Division 2 win over Greensburg Salem.
“Conditions were right and they all played well. They played the way they were supposed to,” Brownsville coach Dan Lonigro said.
Sarah Shashura shut out Sam Patrick in the first singles, before Megan Yocabet topped Katie DeSantis, 6-0, 6-2 and Kayla Bayne secured the win with a three-set win over Cindy Baur, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
In the first doubles the Falcons Ashtyn Guty and Payton Ferguson defeated Emily McMichael and Sarah Stiffey, 6-, 6-0, and Angie Becker and Fari Yuhas topped Kaylee Anderson and Sydney Barger, 6-1, 6-0.
Brownsville hosts Jeannette on Tuesday.
Greensburg CC 5, Southmoreland 0 — Greensburg Central Catholic shut out Southmoreland Friday.
In the singles Ashley Belzer defeated Jackii Houser, 6-0, 6-2, Marrissa Luden topped Alie Perz 6-0, 6-1, and Caitland Harmon bested Kelsie Brown, 6-0, 6-2.
In the doubles Kirsty Figg and Clarissa Harmon beat Mary Taormino and Storm Schaffer in three sets, 6-0, 3-6, 6-3.
Cindy Servi and Kayla Jones won the second doubles over Sarah Sclip and Jordan Smuthberger, 6-1, 6-0.
Southmoreland coach Jim Kessler said, “Although the final scores do not reflect it, the young Scottie squad played a real good match against a seasoned Greensburg Central Catholic team. I’m proud of thier first effort this season and I believe we’ll see much improvement as the year goes along.”
Mount Pleasant 4, California 1 — Countney Pro and Elizabeth Wohar defeated Shelby Romanil and Amanda Marker for California’s only point in a loss to Mount Pleasant.
The Lady Vikings swept the singles, and Sahyla Landman defeated Miranda Hall, April Brodley topped Taylor Tiano and Tayler Bradndey bested Rachel Wohar.
Mount Pleasant’s Kayla King and Sarah Adams defeated Crystal Rook and Keimberly Sears in the second doubles.
