Waynesburg Women Defeat Thiel

Waynesburg’s women’s basketball team had a 61-49 win Wednesday at home, defeating Thiel in both teams’ conference opener.

The two teams fought for the lead in the first half, as the Yellow Jackets came out on top with a 26-23 lead.

In the second half, Waynesburg outscored the Tomcats again, 35-26, for an overall score of 61-49.

Brittany Spencer worked hard for the Jackets, scoring 22 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.

Kelly Muffley had a team-high of 12 points for Thiel, while Ashley Davis scored 10.

Waynesburg’s overall record rose to 3-2 for the year, starting off the conference season with a 1-0.

Thiel fell to 0-6 for the season, losing their first section game.

Men’s basketball

Thiel 83, Waynesburg 59 – The Yellow Jackets and the Tomcats battled for baskets in the first period, ending at halftime 42-42.

Unfortunately, Waynesburg could only muster 17 points in the second half while Theil added 41 to their score, finishing the game at 83-59.

Anothony harvey scored 17 points for Theil (3-2 overall, 1-0 section).

Larry Alexander came off the bench for Waynesburg (2-4 overall, 0-1 section), scoring 16 points.
