Vulcans thrive in new Convocation Center
The California (Pa.) men’s basketball team had a win Saturday in the new Convocation Center, defeating Mansfield, 91-65.
The Vulcans led the way in the first half, ending at halftime 40-27. They also outscored Mansfield in the second half, 51-38.
Steve Swiech managed to score 18 points for California.
Mansfield’s Joe Bell scored a team-high of 14 points, while also leading his team in rebounds, grabbing 10.
California’s record rose to 5-0, (3-0 PSAC), while Mansfield leveled out with a 2-2 record, (1-2 PSAC).
Westminster 74, Waynesburg, 71 — Westminster scored the most baskets in the first period, 44-35. The Yellow Jackets managed to outscore their opponent 36-30 in the second half, but the visiting team held on enough to grab the win.
Ben Donlow had a great game, scoring 29 points and making 11 rebounds for Westminster (2-4, 1-1).
Lou Galante came off the bench for Waynesburg (2-5, 0-2) to lead points for his team with 17.
Women’s basketball
California (Pa.) 79, Mansfield 52 — California’s women’s basketball team outscored Mansfield in the first period, 39-21. The Vulcan’s also led scoring in the second half, 40-31.
Danielle Luckett scored a team-high of 15 points for the Vulcans.
Mansfield’s Mallory Moore outscored her team members with 19 total points.
California added another win to their now 3-2 record, (2-1 PSAC), While Mansfield’s record fell to 1-3, (0-3 PSAC).
Waynesburg 60, Westminster 56 — The Waynesburg women’s basketball team won a close game at home against Westminister.
The Yellow Jackets gained the lead in the first half, ending at halftime 32-20.
Westminster outscored the home team in the second half, 36-28, but the Jackets held on for the win.
Jessi Drayer scored a total of 21 points for Waynesburg (4-2, 2-0)
Emily Dolsak scored the team-high for Westminster (0-6, 0-2), grabbing 12 points, while Gabby Holko came off the bench to score 11 points.
