Local fare well at CH tournament
Local teams fared well in the Chartiers-Houston wrestling tournament Saturday.
Albert Gallatin’s John Phillips took third place when he defeated Uniontown’s Nathan Spinetti, 5-4, at 285.
Spinetti dropped a 4-2 decision in overtime in the semifinals to the host school’s Nate Grandelis.
Spinetti had two pins in Friday’s action to reach the semis over Jeannette’s Nick Clemens (:16) and Elizabeth Forward’s Ben Guenther (2:54).
The Colonials’ Brady Howell (126) took fourth place. Collin Smith (145) was fourth.
Albert Gallatin’s Willie Valentine (113) and Alex Martin (160) were sixth.
AG returns to action Wednesday at Hempfield Area in a section match. The Colonials were 8th out of 22 teams.
The Red Raiders’ Billy Seliga (113) and Bubbie Jenkins (120) won two matches via fall.
Seliga pinned Fort Cherry’s Harry Sawhill in the first round and Jeannette’s Jonathan Stokum in the consolations.
Jenkins pinned the Jayhawks’ Brad Snyder in the first round and Fort Cherry’s Logan Ellek in the consolations.
Uniontown’s Bobby Newman (132) lost a 3-1 match to South Fayette’s Brandon Vickehouse in overtime to miss advancing to the second day.
Southmoreland’s Austin Griffiths (106) and Jordan Kitta (195) won titles.
Peters Township won the team champions and Butler took second.
