Frazier rebounds from tough loss with easy win over Maples
PERRYOPOLIS — Frazier rebounded from a disappointing one-point loss at Bentworth on Tuesday with a 92-27 home win over Mapletown on Wednesday.
Frazier (2-1) scored the game’s first 17 points and then scored 28 consecutive points after a 3-point basket by Mapletown’s Ben Boone interrupted the host’s opening run.
The Commodores led 55-13 at halftime and extended the lead to 77-21 after three periods.
Frazer coach Ed Keebler said his team played well in every area except one. “We have 13 kids on the varsity and 12 of them scored,” Keebler said. “But we didn’t rebound well, and we’ve got to work on that.”
Keebler said the Commodores biggest concern was to prepare for Friday’s section opener at home against Brownsville.
“(Brownsville) is a very talented team and has some outstanding players in C.J. Gaddis, Josh Mapstone, and Christian Floyd. We wanted to treat this game as a practice. I’m a big believer that how you practice is how you play.”
Frazier’s entire starting lineup got into the scoring column just over two minutes into the game, and seven players had scored by the end of the quarter.
Mapletown (0-4) got a pair of treys from Boone to account for the Maples only points by early in the second period. Marcus Cumpston sank four free throws in the quarter and Adam Buttars added a free throw for 10 points in the second quarter.
Frazier’s Tyler Rock had five points in the first half before erupting for 19 points in the second half, including three 3-point baskets. He was joined in double figures by Robert Gondura with 15 points and Kyle Rodriguez with 10 points.
Boone led Mapletown with seven points, while Cumpston and J.T. Durik each scored six points.
While rivals Frazier and Brownsville open their Section 4-AA schedules on Friday, Mapletown is scheduled to play Burgettstown on Saturday afternoon.
