Singler ends slump to lead No. 1 Duke past Temple, 78-61

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) – Kyle Singler broke out of a slump by scoring 28 points to lead No. 1 Duke past No. 24 Temple 78-61 on Wednesday night.

Nolan Smith finished with 15 points and Mason Plumlee added 13 rebounds to help the ACC-leading Blue Devils (26-2) dodge a late-season nonconference letdown and pick up a significant victory in their return to the top spot in the national rankings. Duke used a huge run that bridged the halves to win its eighth straight overall and extend a pair of notable winning streaks at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Lavoy Allen scored 17 points, but Temple (21-6) had its eight-game winning streak snapped.

Singler was 10 of 19 in his most productive game since matching a career high with 30 points against Oregon. He helped Duke win its 35th straight game at Cameron and its 86th in a row against nonconference teams – both NCAA bests.

No. 7 BYU 84, Colorado St. 76

PROVO, Utah – Jimmer Fredette scored 34 points and Brandon Davies added 14 points and 15 rebounds for BYU.

Fredette and Davies combined for 26 points from the free throw line in a game that featured 52 fouls and 69 free throws. Fredette hit 14 of 16, and Davies was 12 of 16 for BYU (26-2, 12-1 Mountain West Conference).

Andy Ogide had 25 points and Adam Nigon added 14 for the Rams (18-9, 8-5).

No. 8 Purdue 72, Indiana 61

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – JaJuan Johnson had 20 points and nine rebounds to help Purdue win its fifth straight.

E’Twaun Moore had 17 points, six rebounds and five assists after a 38-point outburst against Ohio State on Sunday. D.J. Byrd added 11 points for Purdue (23-5, 12-3 Big Ten).

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Ben Hansbrough scored a career-high 32 points and Tim Abromaitis had a 28 to help the Fighting Irish overcome a Big East-record 52 points by Marshon Brooks.

WASHINGTON – Cincinnati beat a Top 25 team on the road for the first time in seven years Wednesday night, holding Georgetown to four field goals in the second half.
