Grapplers seek Section 2-AAA berths Saturday
A quartet of Connellsville wrestlers earned top seeds as teams gather at Baldwin High School Saturday for the Section 2-AAA tournament to determine those who will earn a berth into the WPIAL/Southwest Regional Class AAA Championships.
The top five in each of the 18 weight classifications will earn a spot in the district championships to be wrestled at Chartiers Valley High School on Thursday-Saturday, March 3-5.
Seniors Ryan Williams (135, 14-10) and Jesse Swink (145, 31-7), and sophomores Ethan Kenney (119, 28-8) and Tyler Steele (125, 14-16) all earn No. 1 seeds based on section competition. Juniors Tanner Wiltrout (130, 26-10) and Jeremy Basinger (160, 22-9) and senior Mike Aumer (152, 20-9) are all No. 2 seeds.
Albert Gallatin seniors Chris Milligan (140, 26-5), Tyler Haines (160, 28-5), Patrick Palmer (152, 26-7), and Jacob Lowry (171, 27-4) are all top-seeded in their respective weight classes. Junior Schuyler Moncheck (125, 17-9) is a No. 2 seed.
Belle Vernon sophomore Nathan Russo (27-2) is the top seed at 103 pounds. The Leopards’ Adam Nickelson, a sophomore, is the No. 2 seed a 171 pounds with a 23-8 record.
Uniontown junior Nathan Spinetti (24-6) is the top seed at 285 pounds.
